Caswell County was established in 1777 and much of
its history and way of life will be clearly visible as you make your way around
the county. Caswell got its name from the first governor of the newly
established state of North Carolina. It was the first county formed in the
independent state. Rich in history, the county retains more than 300
historically significant buildings and sites. The crown jewel is the
Historic Caswell County Courthouse on Court Square in Yanceyville.
